Chavan Wada

The bungalow for Mr. Kakasaheb Chavan in Pune is designed as a mix of traditional architecture and modern facilities, while adhering to the principles of Vastu. Inspired by traditional Wada architecture, the habitable spaces are planned around a central courtyard to allow natural lighting, ventilation and visual connection between the floors.

The entrance verandah is treated with natural materials to welcome visitors. The residence also includes a large terrace and semi-open patios on the upper floor. The material palette comprises of local natural stones, wood as a base, and white walls with a sloping roof. The landscape design complements the Wada style architecture, with a front yard for public events and gatherings and backyards offering private gardens. The bamboo screen planting and pergola provide a sense of cosiness and visual privacy
The living and dining spaces are planned in continuation with each other, with the kitchen in the southeast corner.
